About
University Baptist Church is the result of the efforts and vision of believers at First Baptist Church Kingsville in the early 50′s. Originally named Armstrong Chapel, UBC was first suggested by the Baptist City Missions office in Dallas in response to a growing Kingsville. State Baptists offered half the funds that would purchase the lots bought in 1953 as the site of the (then) mission of FBC Kingsville.
As plans were drawn up, the missions first pastor, Lytle Blaisdell, was elected and moved to Kingsville in September 1953.
Ground was broken for the new building of Armstrong Baptist Chapel on March 28, 1954 and the first service was held on July 18, 1954.
Three years later, on September 29, 1957, the Chapel became an organized church taking the name College View Baptist Church. The name was chosen due to its proximity to the Texas College of Arts and Industries campus. Texas College of Arts and Industries changed its name to Texas A&I University in 1967 as the campus grew in scope. In response College View Baptist Church reflected this change by adopting its present name University Baptist Church in 1969 with formal adoption on January 1, 1970.
